About Me and

The Body Mind Psychotherapy Clinic

Hello! I’m Samantha

Clinical Psychotherapist & Supervisor.

Hello, my name is Samantha Yap.  I am a fully qualified and accredited psychotherapist and work with both adults and adolescents.  I am passionate about the work I do and am
committed to providing a safe, respectful and confidential space for each and every client I
meet.

Graduating with a BA (Hons) Counselling and Psychotherapy in 2011 from Dublin Business School, I worked as a Psychotherapist and Clinical Assessor with Pieta House for over four years before leaving to open my own practice in 2015.  The experience I gained in this role provides me with a competence in working with many varied, difficult and complex issues with clients.

I am committed to continuing professional development and consider this a necessary part of my growth as a practitioner. I am specially trained to work with Adolescents (12+ years), having graduated with an Advanced Post Qualifying Diploma in Adolescent Psychotherapy from the Blackfort Adolescent Gestalt Institute in 2015.  I am also an IACP accredited Clinical Supervisor and offer supervision to both Adult & Adolescent Psychotherapists.  Currently, I am training to become a certified Sensorimotor (Body) Psychotherapist and IFS therapist.

I am also engaged as a consultant trauma psychotherapist with Candle Trust Youth Centre, providing support therapy services to their teen and young adult programme participants.

My Approach & Values

My theoretical orientation is an integrative approach which means I use a combination of both traditional talk therapy while also incorporating interventions from modalities such as humanistic, psychodynamic, developmental and body therapy. I recognise and respect that each individual is unique and so I tailor therapy to suit the needs of each client. I believe that each individual has the capacity, desire, and urge to move towards wholeness and health, so I endeavour to guide clients to draw upon and recognise their own wisdom as they begin their journey home to who they authentically are.

With my training in bodywork, I bring a trauma-informed approach that can provide many invaluable tools to help clients to regulate their nervous system. This can help restore calm to the body with the cessation of physical symptoms that, in my own experience, bring many people to therapy. So I try to balance cognitive based skills building modalities with somatic based interventions with the overall aim being to address fundamental needs at a cognitive, emotional and physical level.

I feel that the therapeutic relationship is the most important factor in the successful outcome in psychotherapy. I work to create an optimistic, strengths based, collaborative alliance with clients to allow for an experience of deep connection and healing.
